Guys. Just stop. Please. Stop.

NuTrek fandom, we do not always see eye to eye and straying any closer than the periphery scares me, a lot, but for the most part you are a fun and minimally wanky place. I appreciate that more than you know.

HOWEVER, this is irritating on a multitude of levels and people are rightfully jumping on you for it ( Read more... )

BRB, eyerolling forever.
Edit: Er, I just realised after I hit post that it could sound like I was being patronising and correcting the title of your post, which I wasn't and is totally unintentional. Sorry for that.

I don't know if I'm really for or against the S/U thing (I've always been about the OT3, whether you put that down for epic BFFery or slash, y'know? More of that in the next movie, kthanksbai) but my main problems with it are about what it means for the characters, how it seems to push Uhura into The Girlfriend slot and negate her bloody character but, really, "WAH YOU'VE MESSED UP MY EPIC SHIP I BET YOU HATE GAYS"?

Christ on a bike but people are idiots.

No worries!

I'm not sure I like exactly how Spock/Uhura was handled in the new film, and I would have been very happy to see Uhura kicking ass without necessarily needing to be in a relationship, but at the same time she did get to stand up to Spock (and Kirk) and be a strong character on her own, and I hope that's the side of her the next movie expands on. (Also I didn't think it really matched the tone of the post's point, but I do love me some TOS S/U.)

I do, however, completely agree that now that everybody's been properly introduced, it's past time for the OT3 to get the screentime they deserve.
