If our memories are simply a part of that machine, then what about our families? Was my father really my father? My mother? Are they in this machine somewhere, or are they simply a part of my ( Read more... )

If the machine is the cause of our pasts, which I do not agree on, then everything short of our identity is fabricated. However, there is no proof of anything like that. It is just hearsay. The fallacious beliefs of people who are either brainwashed or determined to convince us otherwise.

...however, my father showed up soon after I did. It is possible that your parents will too.

Your father's here, really? Is he exactly as you remember him?

...several decades younger, but generally the same person. I have yet to decide if that's a good or bad thing.

Generally? Does he look the same, sound the same? How accurate was the 'program', if indeed that's what it was?

Isn't it obvious, what they would say about Japan?

Should it be obvious? If America is like this, then there's probably nothing left of Japan either, is that what you mean?

Affirmative!

Of course, asking those here, they would not even know what Japan was.

[In Japanese, and wordy with it, too. Stray particles, stray particles everywhere.]

Yagami Light, I see. It's a lot of questions you have, not just one. Well, hello, Light-kun.

[This girl's voice is far too young to be as bold as all that, calling him as she does, but- well. Already done.]

From whom should you like the answers, then? You'll get plenty of bias, that is the problem.

I have more questions than just those, but it's a good start, don't you think? [He's a little startled by the familiar address, but does little more than take note of it.] What's your name?

There are worse starts to make, at least.

I am Kurookano Shijima. Pleased to make your acquaintance.

It's nice to meet you too. Where in Japan are you from?

There's no way it's our imagination! I refuse to accept it! That would be... such an insult to the people we hold dear.

An insult. I suppose that's the least it is. It insults us too, right?

It might. But whether our lives have been one big dream or not, it doesn't make what we've experienced any less significant. That's what I think, anyway.

It would be nice to know either way. I'm not really used to this kind of uncertainty.
