Hooray for German Engineering

As I was headed to work this morning, I was rear-ended by a Jeep Grand Cherokee.  The back right bumper of my car is demolished (literally, it shattered) but I drove away from the accident while the owner of the Jeep was still waiting for a tow truck.  Considering the fact that the Jeep outweighs the Mini by approximately 2000 lbs, this can only be ( Read more... )

Glad you're ok. Out of curiosity, how far does a Jeep Grand Cherokee toss a mini when it rear ends it?

Surprisingly, not very far. Traffic had come to a sudden stop so there wasn't much room between me and the truck in front of me, but I didn't get thrown into him. Thankfully it wasn't a straight on hit, or it probably would've been much uglier.

I'm glad the Mini kept you safe! Did it bother your arm at all? I hope the other driver wasn't a jerk. *hugs*

My back and neck are bugging me a bit, and it's radiating down my arm a little, but I should be fine by tomorrow. It wasn't a really hard hit...if I hadn't seen it coming and tensed up, I doubt my back would be bothering me at all.

The other driver was maybe 18, and not a jerk at all thankfully. Turns out she was following the truck that was in front of me, so they both pulled over. (That really confused me at first because I was certain I hadn't hit the truck, so I couldn't figure out why he pulled over.)

No real fuss, all things considered. I made sure no one was hurt and then called for a cruiser to come out. (There was enough damage that I wanted an accident report for my insurance company. I thought about just swapping insurance information, but I figured it was better to be safe than sorry when part of the car shattered:)

Ugh, I'm sorry--even if it did turn out not to be a crisis.

I think when you call the Mini dealer they'd probably _love_ to know how well the car stood up to the accident, though.

I definitely plan on mentioning it. I knew the cars were well-built, but I'm still really impressed at how well it held together!
