Original Layton hat owner here, sup.

I asked my coworker friend about all of this and she said that yes, the main reason why they don't give away displays to customers is that they don't want people selling them and making money off of them. Infact, if an employee is found selling displays, they could get fired if they were found out! So since it's hard to tell if a person is just a huge fan of whatever the display is from or they wanna just sell it for money, they just err on the side of caution and just not give them out.

Very neat that you snagged one though :) and yeah, I really like the cutout bit, I'm thinking of putting it on my door to replace the old Layton cutout that kind of fell off.
