Prologue Chapter 2: My Servant Is Fight

So!

Rin is feeling quite the fool now! And her Servant is not letting her forget this. Troll troll troll.

Having wasted her first Command Spell on something so broad, it should be totally useless. Any Servant could easily disobey it, because it has no focus.

However!

Mr. Servant HAS been affected by the spell, because Rin is so pimpin' awesome. He can disobey his orders, but then he sucks until he obeys them again.

We can pretend that this is like obedience! Right, Servant? Right?

Okay, time for some EXPOSITION.

-Rin's magical energy is keeping her Servant intact.
-Rin gets embarassed when praised. Tsun tsun.
-Oh right we gotta find out his class!

He dodges around the question a lot, probably because Rin is so fixated on getting Saber, which he isn't. No, he's

Archer
The Servant Who Doesn't Really Do Much Archery

Anyway, on to more infodumping.

We don't really know what this means yet! Not that it matters, because Archer doesn't know the answer. He seems to have amnesia. Fortunately, he assures as that he is the strongest Servant.

I guess his true identity is this heroic spirit.

Anyway, time to put our newfound nigh-omnipotent slave being to work!

Rin decides that since Archer messed up the room downstairs, he ought to clean it up! Archer argues that Servants aren't maids, but apparently yes, Servants are maids, because if he disobeys Rin, then he won't be in shape to fight properly.

Do you like infodump? I LIKE INFODUMP

Anyway, whoever wins the Holy Grail War gets the Holy Grail. Legend says it can grant any wish. Pretty sweet recap of like 12 screens of text, huh?

Fuck it, we're skipping school. Rin's low on energy after burning all that MP summoning Archer, so she's got a day to recover.

Looks like Archer doesn't have his super ultimate technique! Surely this means that we will not see it during the game, ever.

Archer plays maid for a bit for some reason, then it's time to get down to business.

INFODUMP. Servants are spirits, so they can take non-corporeal form. Archer isn't Caster, so he doesn't have the magical capacity to detect the other Servants from far away. Rin finally introduces herself, and Archer leaps straight to first-name basis. Rin tsuns.

Onwards!

Rin spends way too long playing tour guide for the player. None of it is of much relevance except for the last bit!

This is the park at the center of Fuyuki! There was a huge fire here and everything burned down horribly, so they made a park in its place. It is also where the previous Holy War ended.

Nobody comes here.

Archer compares the feeling of the place to a...

The short version of this infodump:

NORMAL MAGIC: Take what's already there and mold it
REALITY MARBLE: Rewrite reality from the ground up

Why does Archer know about something this awesome?

More argument, more tsun tsun, then--

You know how Harry Potter can sense Voldemort via scar hurtings? Masters can do that via Command Spells. Someone's watching.

Rin and Archer both try to sense the interloper more directly, to no avail. It must be a Master, then, because Servants radiate so much energy.

OH WELL onwards we go.

From atop this super tall building, Archer shows off his ridiculous Archer eyesight. Rin just looks down...

...until someone looks back up?

Surely that wasn't foreshadowing anything.

BACK HOME!

Wait, what's this on the way there.

Howdy, stranger! All foreigners have red eyes, right? That's normal.

This doesn't go anywhere, so back home we go.

Yeah let's talk to Kirei. Rin checks in, then expertly ends the conversation before he can talk forever. A valuable skill. Sleep!

February 2nd

We're going to school! Rin figures this is okay BECAUSE
  • Magi wouldn't attack in such a public place.
  • Archer can stay by her side at spirit form in case of emergencies.
  • There's only one other magus family in town, and their successor sucks too much to be a magus.
Flawless logic, Rin. Let's go!

Someone's up to some trickery at school! Dun dun dun etc. Rin makes a mental note to figure out who's up to this and beat the stuffing out of them. Onwards!

Blah blah blah blah blah Rin asks Sakura about that red-eyed foreign devil and she makes some vague excuses before running off. That is basically all that happens at school today!

Time to get to work!
Rin believes that, since this boundary field is too weak to affect magi, it's targetting everyone in the school. Let's break it!

Yeah, turns out that's really hard. Also, when it activates, it's going to melt everyone in it. Awesome! This leads into a conversation about how Servants eat souls to live, but more on that later. We troll the enemy Master by fucking up the field a little, then head--

"What, you're going to erase it? What a waste."

Aw, shit. We got company. Better yet, the enemy soon reveals himself to be a Servant! Rin's starting to rapidly consider Plan GTFO, when...

Yeah, this Servant doesn't seem to be too keen on us leaving peacefully. Rin uses the clever counter-tactic of HURLING HERSELF OFF THE ROOF then letting Archer handle the landing. Good thing he can do that!

Augmented magic running is a cool trick, but...

During the ensuing conversation, the enemy reveals his class!

Lancer
The Servant with loaded attack dice

Enough mincing words! ARCHER, I CHOOSE YOU

For some reason Archer engages Lancer in a melee battle! Using a short sword. Versus a lance. Nice going, Archer!

Regardless of this, Archer seems to be holding his own, to some extent. I mean, he's not dead? Rin's mostly just thinking, "holy shit, Servant battle."

And IN THE MIDDLE OF THIS BATTLE, do you know what time it is?

EXPOSITION TIME
Never change, Nasu.

Anyway, it's time to introduce the seven Servant Classes!

Got that? Good. MOVING ON

Lancer's getting serious now, but Archer's got a trick up his sleeve!

I guess Lancer forgot that Rangers can also DUAL WIELD

Even so, though, looks like Archer's on the defensive. Archer's losing his sword with every attack, and then somehow reclaiming it an instant later. At about 5000000 hits per second.

Eventually, Lancer decides that he's DONE WITH THIS SHIT.

WARNING WARNING WARNING
BE ATTITUDE FOR GAINS

Lancer prepares his Noble Phantasm, and Rin is immediately aware that the moment he gets this shit off, Archer's dead. If Rin moves, or if Archer moves, he'll attack.

Meaning there's nobody who can st

Oh boy!

By the way, did I mention that since normal people aren't allowed to know about the Holy Grail War, all witnesses have to die?

Rin and Archer are after the wayward student. Maybe he got away! That's possible, right?

Wrong! Lancer totally stabbed this loser right in the heart. He's about 10 seconds away from dead.

At least it's not anyone we liked, right?

Well, uh.

At least Rin's not going to do anything stupid, right?

Right?

NICE GOING, RIN

Anyway, Rin saves the poor schmuck's life. For some reason. Guess she was feeling sentimental? Also she leaves the pendant there, because she's not thinking very well right now.

TO HOME

Well, that was a total fuckup.

There's some talk about what wish Rin will make. She doesn't really have one? Weirdo. Also Archer brought the pendant back, so that plot thread is gone.

Hold on a sec.

Oh son of a bitch he's toast.

OFF WE GO

WITH A THREE HOUR LATE START ON HIM

We're all ready to go jump in and save the day at his house when SUDDENLY MAGIC

Uh oh.

INCOMING ATTACK--

I hope you like that blood spatter pattern, because you'll be seeing it quite a lot.

Fortunately, Rin manages to force Archer to discorporate - at the cost of another Command Spell. Unfortunately, that leaves us in front of an unknown enemy, down two COmmand Spells, down our best magic item, and with no Servant. Um!

Hey, if we're gonna die, it might as well be to a hot chick.

Rin knows who this is instantly. This is who she wanted.

This is
