*watching Severus carefully; caught that moment of vulnerability, impossible not to see the flicker of uncertainty and his own insecurities shift within Severus' eyes*

*not for the first time does he wonder about the boy and the frightening similarities between him and a young Tom Riddle*

*but Riddle never portrayed such vulnerability, not even in his weakest moments; that's what makes Severus more human to him*

*that's what makes Severus so much easier to help*

Not yet, Severus. I don't need to check anything with Madame Pomfrey. I'm well aware of your records. Why is it so difficult for you to see that I'm only trying to look out for your own best interests? I do not want you to get sick for the sake of you not getting sick. There are no ulterior motives around this.

*eyes seek out and catch Severus' own, searching no more for that vulnerability but digging deeper into Severus' mind and soul, looking for something he doesn't want to find, but knows it's there*

Severus. *decides to take a chance* Do you wish to stay at Hogwarts over the course of this summer?

*knows what this could mean for Severus; knows full well that he'd have to pull some major strings for this to work out but doesn't doubt that he can*

*also knows what a blow this would be to another*

I'm very serious, Severus. I need only clear it with your parents but I think they'd be reasonable about this. *especially if they were anything like what he's envisioning them to be*

No need to plead, Severus. I'll send an owl to your parents requesting that you stay here for the summer, provided that you follow the rules. You're not to go off school grounds without being accompanied by an adult. You're not to go into the forbidden forest. The same rules that you obey now also apply to the summer months.

*stands and smiles down at Sev* I know you'll be on your best behavior, Severus. I wouldn't offer this to just anyone, you realize.

*there's quite a lot in Sev's mind that disturbs him, not the least of which is how he's treated at home but the niggling thoughts in Severus' own happiness...and what gave him that happiness that also bother him*

I have the utmost faith in you, Severus. But I also would like to see you taking care of yourself more. I'd like to see you with your hair brushed every day and you keeping yourself clean.

For the summer, at least, you'll be in a new environment and I want you to make a good impression on people. Rather than focus on any negative qualities, I want you to see the positive traits about you that can be brought out.

I want to see you happy, Severus. Will you be able to do this?

It's quite simple, Severus. You need only shower at least once a day and make certain that your hair is brushed before you leave your dorm room every day.

It's not that difficult. I'm sure Mr. Malfoy could give you some help if need be. *full confidence in Severus*

I shall write them immediately. *smiles* I don't hesitate when my mind is set on something.

Yes, you're dismissed. And you needn't worry about keeping it a secret, just in case anyone asks the reason behind your apparent good mood. *friendly wink* Go ahead and take with some lemon drops for yourself and anyone else. *very pleased that he could inspire such good humour in Severus*
