Sounds like a fic just waiting to be written.

Probably will eventually, if there is an audience for it. Then again, I've never let lack of audience stop me before

Possible :) It would make an interesting fic AU!
Though that any child of Cara and Darken's could be such an brat...actually, I'd have liked to see Cara in "Listener" dealing out discipline; "Guess what I'm thinking now," she said with one hand on her Agiel. Renn blanched.
But then I think all season one episodes would have been improved by the inclusion of Cara (and more Darken!) :P

Ooh, an interesting idea for a fic :D My favorite part is:

And all of this, ALL OF THIS, is swirling around Darken's head when Renn and Darken finally meet, and when everyone asks Renn what's going on with Darken, Renn just says, "His mind is filled with confusing thoughts."

It's always looked to me like Renn was unprepared for whatever he found in Darken's mind. Hearing people's thoughts would be such a burden, anyway. Probably Renn concentrated on R/K's epic love because he didn't want to think about their anger and grief for the family they've lost, or how they kill people every episode.

The only thing is, Darken would know Renn had read his mind, so would he still leave Richard et al by using the Hand of the Keeper to create a rift between them? Why wouldn't he want to bond with/persuade Renn to help him right then?

I have consulted my Inner Darken Rahl, and my thinking is that Darken would still escape without trying to involve Renn because 1) He doesn't want to draw undue attention to Renn (other than what he already gets because Listener) until it's safe and Darken has D'Hara in hand and ready to turn over to his son and 2) after everything, EVERYTHING, Darken doesn't want to convince Renn or coerce him. He doesn't want to force him. Just once, Darken wants to be chosenSo he'll go make things safe, and try to get D'Hara ready for the next Lord Rahl, but he wants Renn to come to him. And he knows that Renn knows everything that just went through his mind, so Renn has all the information he needs to make a decision. There's really not much more for Darken to say ( ... )
