Tab needed to take a break from all the handshaking. She was wondering if it was possible for her face to be strained from all the smiling too. It wasn't so much that she was ungrateful to Aiden for setting this whole thing up and letting her meet some real movers and shakers. It was just that she wasn't built for the PR. Not without letting a few choice words slip, and it was nearly killing her trying to keep the four-letter words out of her vocab.
Then there was the fact that her and Luke were only managing to steal five minutes here and there. She excused herself from a lobster and took her leprechaun arse off to the quiet corner she spotted her brother in. She flopped down in the booth beside him and let out a sigh. "I thought a bloody party was supposed to be fun? I'm fucking working my arse off."
"Yeah, but Tara and Lachlan are just insatiable! I've never met a pair who just need one look and they're off. It's not even like the marriage has dampened that. You hear all kinds of crap about getting married and it making your sex life turn to shit, but definitely not with those two." Tab grinned. "Yeah, I know. And I guess it's scarier for Aiden having to deal with all of us than just some parents or whatever. He's determined though, and I'm proud of him. Fate must really like all of us, huh?"
Tab's eyebrows knitted in concern. "See, I think I'd have trouble with crap like that too. Do you know if they're hoping for a particular gender?"
"To be fair, he had a good five months where he couldn't and when they first met, they couldn't get the deed done to save themselves. I think they're making up for that to make sure it never happens again," Riley sniggered. "That and pregnant hormones are apparently rife on horniness." He grinned. "I just think its cool he was eyeing off Pat before any of us decided to play cupid."
"No, they aren't. They're hoping for a live baby," he murmured with a sigh. "It's hard to view it like that. Chase and Rogue wanted to know, and found out they were having a girl, but Lachlan and Tara know they only get one shot. I think they want to be surprised on the day of the birth. I don't really know what I'd do. Not that it matters much."
"I've had like, two weeks of not being able to shag Luke and it's driving me crazy. I can't imagine how I'd go with it being months. I don't know how you and Lachlan didn't just explode. You're stronger than me, that's for sure." Tab smiled and rest her head against his shoulder. "It is very cool. Aiden has good taste."
"Fair point. I hope they get a live baby." She lifted her head again and eyed her brother. "Would you ever adopt? Or get someone to be a sperm donour?"
"When your quality of life is on the line, the essense of sex is a hard thing to tap into. I hope that's something you never have to experience, squirt. I'll do everything in my power to make sure you don't," Riley promised.
He scratched his finger across his temple. "I don't think I'd want to adopt. I don't know why. Call me selfish or whatever, but I'd rather the kid be one of our's biologically than none. Sperm Donor is an option. I don't know. I guess I'm still bitter that it happened at all to rationally consider options like this. I feel like I've been cheated out of something I've always wanted."
"I know you will. I don't ever want to be in that position either, but I didn't want you to be and you are." Tab looked down at the table and ruffled her hair as she cleared her throat. She hated that there was something she could never protect her brother from.
"So there's no way that they can just, I don't know, clean your sperm?" Tab asked him quietly.
"Yeah, but I'm alive. I realise now that I'm one of the lucky ones," Riley told her and reached over to take her hand. He gave a small laughed. "There is, actually. It's called 'sperm washing', and it's been effective. I'd just still be so scared it wouldn't work."
Tab squeezed his hand tight in hers and looked at him. "You are. Besides, I'd be lost without you. I don't even want to think--" she broke off with a shake of her head and didn't bother finishing that train of thought. "So when you're ready to think kids we'll nail down a possible Donor. Meantime, you can just work on your porno with Evie. I am so glad I didn't know about that earlier today otherwise all I would have been able to think about was making porn with Luke and horniness is not conducive to meeting relatives."
Tab shrugged. "It was alright, I guess. I was about ready to piss myself but as you can see we're still together so there were no apocalyptic stuff ups on my part. We spend so much time arguing about it during the week."
"No, no. Of course not. She's really nice. I like her. It's just when he told me I freaked out and then he couldn't understand why I was freaking out and just kept thinking it was because I thought I was going to hate his family, but it was never that!" Tab rest her head in her hand and sighed. "I was just worried I wouldn't be good enough for them, you know? What if they didn't think that I was suited to Luke?"
"Well, did he give you reason to believe they wouldn't?" Riley asked. "Like, outright, our mother was hardly going to think he was a match made in heaven for you."
Tab shook her head. "No. He kept assuring me that it would be okay if I was just myself. And Mother Superior can just go fuck herself. She wouldn't be happy unless I was marrying a king. And even then she'd probably talk him out of marrying me."
Riley just rubbed his head at the cussing about their mother. He didn't want to go there again. Not when he was in two minds about speaking to their father again. "I doubt he'd have said that if he thought they'd be less than pleased with you."
Tab shrugged. "I don't know. I just didn't want to fuck it up. This is his sister, you know? She came especially. Well, okay she had a conference but she also wanted to make sure she met me."
