Pat carefully dug around in the bag for a red one. He met Aiden's eyes at the question but made no comment on the subject. He only came up with three white bears and a yellow one, which he automatically dropped into Aiden's hand so he contined his search for the prized red ones. "You're going to have to go back to New York soon, darling. I know you're probably having trouble finding a way to throw that into the conversation, but it's okay. You've already been wonderful. Your company has been... really great," he said with a smile.

"But not good enough?" Aiden asked uncertainly. Was Pat brushing him off?

"Better than enough," Pat corrected and slowly wet his lips. "I owe you an apology, darling. For giving you a hard time and making you feel like you have to perform some sort of circus act to prove yourself to me. I was scared. Am scared... to trust anyone. I have a hard enough time accepting the illness, so I just don't understand how anyone else would want to even try. I also felt inadequate. That I had nothing to offer you in return. You must have your pick of guys and I wasn't sure why you'd pursue me when you could have someone normal and healthy who didn't have to be a constant trial."

Aiden sat forward and took Pat's hand. "I've never been one to take an easy out, Pat. Never. I'm not seeing a big MS stamped across your forehead when I look at you. I'm seeing a really gorgeous guy that I want to get to know and I want to laugh with. These few days visiting you, I've had more enjoyable conversation than some of the guys I've dated over a matter of months. I just want you to know that if you'll let me, I want to try and give you what you need. Even the difficult stuff. I can't promise I'll be perfect, but I can do my best."
