Riley was knackered. He had been babysitting the whole day now and a conversation with Lachlan just now had Riley offering to keep the baby overnight after assurances there was enough milk and diapers etc. to last the distance. It hadn't been an easy day and Baby Riley was unsettled most of the time, but it was better this than Tara and Lachlan trying to battle through being sick and trying to care for a newborn. If they didn't look after themselves, it would just prolong and that wouldn't be any help to anyone.
He set the baby bottle into the pot of boiling water at the back of the stove and then went back to rubbing the baby's back softly. He was quiet. Thank god he was quiet. Much more of the wailing and Riley was going to end up with a migraine. The house looked worse now than it did earlier and he had completely lot track of time when everyone was due home. Lucky he wasn't facing a nightshift that night.
