why can't parents just let you stop something that you're no longer interested in without giving you that 'oh no, you can stop *disappointed sigh* it's ok, really.' bull?? continuing something that you should be in because of a love of learning it, and a devotion to it simply because your parents want you to is not right. i see that, why can't they ( Read more... )

Ah, I was afraid of that. While a martial art is not something you should give up on a whim (and I, personally, want you to continue just because it's so BA), if you're really not into it you should stop. It's your life, after all.

I think part of the rents' frustration may be due to the fact that you're so close to what looks like a "goal," something you've ostensibly been working towards. And while a black belt does represent a certain level of achievement, so does the brown belt that you have. Actually, a belt, as Mr. McKenzie is fond of saying, is a piece of cloth that holds your gi shut. A black belt is not the end of a journey - it's more of a way station than a destination. But, the general public doesn't necessarily realize this.

I agree with you. If you lost the passion, your ability to learn it well is gone.

And parents are weird. Takes one to know one.
