You might be interested in this, if you haven't already read it. It's about gay pride.
Also, amen. Thank you. Too many people forget that we are not fighting for the right to walk down an isle and have a religious figure bless our unions and declare us lady and wife, partners in life, or whatever. We've always had the right to religious marriage; it's just a question of how hard you're willing to look for somebody that'll perform the ceremony. And even if that were what we were looking for, then we wouldn't be able to do anything.. the first amendment doesn't just say that religion shall not control the government. It also says that the government shall not control religion.
It actually bothers me that this is even an issue at all. I mean.. for crying out loud. "You don't love the right person, so you are now a second-class citizen in your own country." What the fuck is that?
We're here, we're queer indeed. Amen. And thanx for watching and commenting. And you are so right, if we want to get "commitment ceremonied" we can all just become Universal Unitarians. LOL Well, 5 states down, 45 to go. Thanx for standing with me. And calling me cute ;-)
well its no so much as a government vs religion issue its more of religious issue that happened to be discussed by politicians. The government is not saying that they are amending the Bible, they are reinforcing it, and that is clearly within the bounds of the separation of Church and State. The Bible, as well as the Koran and many other religious texts denounce homosexuality and the rite of marriage is only reserved for a man and a woman, and personally I have conflicts with gay marriage not just religiously because, though its hard for me, I understand that Nico could actually be in love with another man, and that is all fine and dandy, and I understand that they should be allowed the same privileges as any heterosexual couple, but the problem lies in the actual evidence of this love in the eyes of others because for all we know two guys, they don't really have to be gay, could feign gayness so they can get married and reap the economic benefit that come from being in a marriage, or (i saw an example of this on an old Drew Carey
