It sounds to me like you need to practice.

That does seem like a good idea, yes. Whatever it is that might be coming, I'd certainly like to be ready for it, as best I can.

Then don't worry about the storm. It's time we found you a sword that wasn't a practice one, anyway.

Well, I might still worry about the real one, a bit! If it really is a storm that they're warning about, that is. He mentioned umbrellas, though, so it rather sounds like it might be.

But I won't let October bother me, either. I've already made my bet with myself for that much.

It's not October yet, you know.

No, but it's coming up soon, isn't it? Perhaps they're planning to usher in the month with a storm.

And it would be rather ironic if the were, I'd say.

So you've already taken to fretting over it, have you?

I'm not fretting! And it's not superstitious, either. It's just...trying to be prepared, that's all, and it's not as though we don't have reason to think it might be wise.

I thought the lesson in that story was, you shouldn't say there's trouble if there isn't.

It is, but I think it could both ways, doesn't it? The boy was certainly wrong for saying there was trouble when there wasn't, but he did say there was trouble when there was, too. And I think the deities are rather like that, too--they can't always be trusted, but sometimes they can, and we have to use our best judgment to try to decide which is which.

Well, I suppose.

I think... if they something's going to happen, then something's going to happen. I'm not sure we can ever know what, though, until it does.

It is the right time of the year for it, I suppose. Well, if any time of the year can really be called the right time for trouble. But either way, we might as well get ready--whether it's for their storm or for October, just the same.

October's just another month on the calendar. Storms, zombies, cannibals... we'll all get through just fine. Not that it hurts to get ready for something big and bad, just in case. I don't know what the deities're up to, or if they're up to anything, or if they're just trying to scare us.

...I'm sorry about the other day, too. I don't really remember what happened, but between that and being totally out of it Sunday... I'm sorry. Not just any friend would do what you did, you know.

I don't know, either, but it's still better safe than sorry, I think. We've certainly seen enough bad Octobers to have reason to think that this one might be the same, after all.

Oh, but there's no need to apologize! Really, I'm just glad you're all right, that's all. You sounded rather...well, unlike yourself, and I just wanted to make sure you had someone looking after you.

You're right... being ready for the very worst can't be a bad thing, even if we keep hoping that the worst won't happen.

Are you sure? That was--I mean, I never drink like that. I didn't even know what sake was when I bought it, it just... seemed like a really good idea at the time.

Thank you for watching out for me, Rosella.

And of course, you know you and Freckles are always welcome at the Warehouse, if you think you'd rather weather it out here, instead. Goodness knows it's one of the safest places in the City to be, when these sorts of things start happening.

I think a lot of people were acting rather unlike themselves that day, really. I suppose it might've been a curse, even if it was an odd one at that. And I'm just glad I could help, Penny, and that you're feeling better now.

It's always something, isn't it? And especially around this time of the year. But whatever it is, we'll manage it--and it's only a month, October. It's not long to last, and then we'll be free of it for another whole year.

All things considered, September's been rather a quiet month--much quieter than last year's, certainly. That might've been our month's respite before all the trouble starts up again.
