"Hey, now...you're gonna have to share me from now on." he laughed, releasing her as he shifted to stretch and pick up a ratty stuffed tiger off the ground by the wall. Squeezing it, the toy squeaked, earning Bette's attention. He tossed it, hard and far, making her bark as she turned and trotted off to chase it down.
"That'll keep her busy for a while." he grinned, rising to his feet to face her again. Still grinning, he absently cracked the gum he was chewing and reached up to scratch his neck, feeling as nervous and new at this as she did. He'd been with other girls, but this...it wasn't just a girl. It was the girl, The One. He knew it, felt it in ways he hadn't before...
"Can I get ya a drink?" He finally offered, flipping another switch on the wall to light the living room as he led her further inside. "Here, have a seat...I got pretty much anything, and I gotta just feed Bette real fast, hope ya don't mind."

Then suddenly they were both silent and awkward. Reaching up to brush some hair from her face, she shifted her weight slightly as she tried to think of something -- anything -- to say. Clearing her throat, she was about to come up with something but then he was offering her a drink.
"Uh, anything would be fine." She nodded, moving to follow him as she focused on breathing slowly. "No, of course I don't mind, go ahead." She motioned before turning to find somewhere to sit, chewing on her bottom lip.

Jesus, it was so much different here.
They felt the same, every touch, every kiss, but as he moved around on autopilot, mixing Bette's kibble and canned food, he realized that it had been easier to just be with her back in Lakeshire.
