In a rut

I've been in a little bit of a creativity rut recently, and I'm starting to feel the effects of it I think ( Read more... )

When you find a way to shake of teh lazy, let me know. I keep meaning to start an exercise regimen, but never seem to be able to sustain the enthusiasm for any more than 1 week. :/
Life seems to keep getting in the way.

I think these cycles are normal. We slide into ruts, and then we realise we've been stuck in them a while, and then we crawl out, and then we slide... So I reckon that tip number one must be: Stop beating yourself up about it. Just recognise it and decide what you want to do. Sometimes, writing down a schedule can help. They reckon it takes a month to make a habit, so just doing one extra thing each week for a month can help.

Bah, I hear you on the friends business except that it was I who moved. I left all of my friends on the other side of town when we moved over here for Bill's job. It's too much effort to visit most of them, and they consider it the same to come and visit me, yet I just can't seem to be stuffed making new friends on this side of town.

I kind of like renting, though. It feels delightfully irresponsible, and I can leave pretty much whenever I want. Well, I can in theory and that's generally good enough for me.

I'm wasting my life with my job, though.

At least your friends are still relatively close by that it could be doable with some effort? Ours moved cross-country or intercontinental :( And then there's the ones we left in AU when we moved out here, and the ones we've made in Holland in the last 2 years (of all places).

I dislike renting mostly because I dislike being beholden to someone else. I hate not being able to do whatever I want to the house. Okay, you can paint, as long as you paint it back before you leave... but you can't remodel or bust out a wall or any of that stuff. And I hate not having anything at the end of the ride after putting in all the money... at least with a mortgage you own the property instead of having nothing at all at the end of it.

The idea of being able to leave when you want is nice, but I'm ready for a place that's just *mine* and nobody elses, that we can do up in the style we want to.

I'm in a rut too, along with PreZ, lol. We're the rut family at the moment :|

Some are, but most of my friends left the state/country shortly after we moved for Bill's job. While I suppose it's not that hard to go to Melbourne or whatever I definitely can't afford to go to the UK/Ireland/US/Canada/etc.

I didn't even know you could temporarily paint. How interesting. Still, until I can afford a Really Nice Place I'd prefer the lack of responsibility. I had a friend who bought a unit and then was liable when it started falling down. With our finances, a falling down place is all I can afford and I just don't want to fix up a dwelling. One day I'd like my own place to remodel and the like as I see fit, but I like renting because it means I can live in less perfect places and not be responsible for them fucking up.

Yeah, unless you have the budget to really renovate a place that's the pits (in the flipping houses sense), it's not worth it.

As for the temporarily painting thing, unless the landlord just doesn't want you to, you can basically paint it whatever you like, or even wallpaper it, as long as you make it look like it did when you moved in.

Personally I couldn't be arsed painting a rental place to repaint it in a couple of years when we leave... screw that, way too much effort.

You've just moved, of course you're in a rut. There's going to have to be calming down from it, and then figuring out how to make new friends in this new area. That's always a hurdle for a couple unless you think it's just the best fun *evah*. Getting up early and running home as quickly as possible? What if, you're both just jonesing for quality time with each other, some sense of equilibrium, before starting on yet another what might be prickly adventure?

And the only way I know to excercise, is to add good times into it, so I ride a bike, work out only when it means Yoga, I'm gonna feel good, or the team needs me to do this workout/calisthenics.

Well, we're in the process of moving, the actual move is this Saturday. And we're not moving too far away (about 5 miles north). We don't know anyone in this area either.

I need to go back to the gym, I have a membership that's remained virtually untouched in the past year which is pathetic, and they have babysitting in the mornings and afternoons so I can actually go and leave Dashiell for up to 2 hours. And they have Yoga and Pilates classes (never tried the latter though).

Meeting new people always sucks... especially when you're of the alternative sort, and outnumbered by the 'normals' :P We're moving to a more snooty area too, so it's all manicured boutique-shopping soccer moms to look forward to...

We seem to run in packs.. But by the same token, I've been in that rut for nearly a decade, so I've got a bit of a head-start ;)

I'm starting to move forward again, albiet at a snails pace. For the moment, it's just getting of my arse to do a bit of cleaning around the place, but maybe.. maybe there's music in my future.. We'll see..

As for the renting, yeah. I know that one too. But I've almost got enought for a deposit, and my wage is finally enough to actually support a morgage! *YAY!*

I guess I'll see what happens over the next year or two!

Just need a girl :-| Ah well.. Slowly.. :P
