I remember right before I left for Ireland you gave me that awesome guidebook, along with a little letter. It said (among other things) how when travelling long term, it isn't always going to be awesome, but overall the entire experience will be awesome. Anyway, when I was having difficulty making friends at first I really held on to that! It took a while for me, personally, to settle in Ireland, so don't feel like you have to have friends like rightaway. And I totally get your not having someone to go out with dilemma.. that happened with me too. But I find people in the UK and Ireland are usually so up for going for a pint with someone they barely know, it's so casual. So you will probably be able to go out with your roommates, or coworkers, or roller derby girls!
