The story and pictures made me tear up. I can't imagine going through birth and adoption at 15. It's wonderful that you volunteer your services for teen moms--I'm sure it's tremendously helpful to them. Thank you for sharing!

What a wonderful story. Thank you for sharing! And what a trooper Kyla was. It would have been so easy for her to give up and ask for a c-section to just get it over with, but she hung in there and birthed her baby her way. Congratulations to her, her partner, and the new adoptive parents! And, I would also like to say that I think what you do for teen moms is amazing. This young girl was lucky to have the support of her partner and family, but so many in her situation don’t have that, so it’s great that you’re there to step in and help them through their most vulnerable time. Good for you!

oh thank you so much! i do have to say though, its only because of the paying clients that i am able to do volunteer births occasionally. i have another one coming up in march, an OSD birth for a mom whose husband is deployed.

anyway, so if you want to support what i'm doing, repost the story! maybe it will reach and touch someone in my area who would be interested in hiring a doula :-) I am also hoping it can inspire other teen moms and maybe some adoptive moms too!

:-)

Thank you for sharing this wonderful birth story. The picture where she was in the background, smiling on at the new family she created, was a beautiful thing to me that brought tears to my eyes. How wonderful.

Awww, thanks. I was a journalist in my former life (pre-SAHM, and definitely pre-doula) so I like to think I at least kind of know what I'm doing when it comes to choosing photos that best tell a story. The one you like is my favorite too. I also chose the pushing one where you can see her braces because I felt it really captured the essence of her girl/woman-ness very well.

On a side note, the fact that these photos are even usable is pretty surprising to me, considering I was the one that took them, lol. Writing, I'm decent at. Doula-ing, I love and I'm getting better every day. But photography? Well, let's just say I took that course on pass fail :-) I know enough about good photos to explain why mine are usually bad. I followed the photographers' best rule though, I took a million more photos than I could ever use, hoping that some wouldn't suck. Judging from everyone's reactions, I guess I did OK :-)

I really hope this does not come across the wrong way. I am asking because I am thinking doula for my next child.

I thought doulas were there to help you get through an unmedicated unassited natural labor and birth. Am I wrong on that? What exactly does a doula do :)
