Spam me about induction

Hello everyone! I am scheduled to be induced this friday. I will be 39 weeks. I have a clotting disorder (APS) and inject blood thinners twice a day so getting me off my blood thinners in time for delivery makes induction necessary. Anyways, I have a platelet count of 66,000 and the cut off for epidurals is 100,000. I would love some stories ( Read more... )

I don't have any personal experience, but when I was looking at a prospective induction with my daughter 2 years ago, I posted here and got a lot of great replies: http://pregnant.livejournal.com/15797673.html#comments. (I ended up not needing one because she, having inherited my penchant for cutting it close on deadlines, decided to come on her own the morning we were scheduled to go in.) Hope that is helpful, and good luck!

Thanks I will take a look at it. I was supposed to be induced with my son back in 2009 but he decided to come 9 days early as well! Luckily that time I was able to stop taking my shots when I noticed my contractions starting. This time I have contractions all the time so I think it will be hard to determine the actual onset of labor!

I was induced with cytotec (which I'm going to hear grief about, but I researched it and was comfortable with this option) & pitocin. Once my water broke, the pit was turned off and I was on my own from there on out. I gave birth to a 10lb 15 oz boy in the water tub!

I was induced with Cytotec and Pitocin as well. They started the Cytotec at about 8:45 PM and I had dilated a centimeter by 4:45 AM, so they gave me Pitocin around 5; my water broke within an hour of that, and I had my son at 6:16 AM. I asked for an epidural at like 5:50 when I was 6 centimeters and at 0 station, but within minutes my body was pushing on its own and I was at a ten. The nurses delivered my son.

I think, overall, it was a really good (and fast) experience. When you're first feeling the pain, it's terrifying, and there isn't anything you can do, but by then, pushing is a relief. It feels better to push.

Don't psyche yourself out too much :)

I was induced and only got an epidural because I needed a c-section.

My sister in law labored for over 24 hours w/ pitocin . She only got an epidural because they needed to do a c-section. It is possible. :) My mom did it too but her labor was much shorter- 5 hours. My mom says it was intense but do-able.

My mom got induced every time of her four births back then (1967, 78, 81, 85), and never got/wanted an epidural either. She said being induced sucked but apparently it was still managable for her, she told me that she'd been reading a lot during labour. o_O I think what pissed her off most was the duration of it in total, she said it was always over 15 hrs (I have no clue wether that's normal or not, and from when on they started counting it as labour; personally I wasn't induced and my labour was counted as 7.5 hrs).

Yeah, I was going to add that induction can probably work better or worse depending on the timing (in regards to the mother's readiness), amount and speed of administration, and the type of drugs/drug cocktail given ( ... )
