Bridesmaid...

My cousin is getting married in three months. I will be about five months along with number 2. She has asked me to be in her wedding and I'm thrilled, but I need a dress. She knows I'm pregnant and is really easy going about the dresses, asking only that it be navy blue or silver- everything else is up to us. I don't want to spend a lot of money ( Read more... )

What about something like this:

Other stores that carry maternity: gap, Loft

At 5 months (esp if this is your first baby), your belly might not be too big. I'm 20.5 weeks right now and could probably wear most loose-fitting dresses.

You also might want to keep your eye on Zulily.com for a few days to see if anything pops up.

I think, especially if you stick to navy blue, it could be easy to find a pretty maternity gown! I just browsed down Old Navy dresses (something I do every day anyway) and found this: http://oldnavy.gap.com/browse/product.do?cid=48687&vid=1&pid=104642&scid=104642022 ... maybe paired with silver shoes and jewelry, or a light cardigan, something like that could be great. Of course I'm not sure if October is cold where you live, etc. But I think there are a lot of elegant, simple options.

FYI - I ordered the above dress for a wedding (to wear as a guest) and was greatly disappointed in it. It looks really nice! But the fit was off, and the fabric was very casual. Probably not something you'd want to wear as a bridesmaid.

I ended up finding my dress at Target - they have a few really nice, dressy dresses from time-to-time.

That's disappointing! It definitely looks a little more dressy in the photo. I like Old Navy, but they are very hit and miss. I have a maternity dress that ended up looking kind of frumpy and loose on me, although admittedly it will probably look a lot more fitted when I'm farther along. But sometimes they have great stuff.

Second ones pop much more, more quickly apparently, mine hasn't popped yet, but we'll see what happens at 12 weeks ( ... )

I should have been a little more clear. I'm 8 weeks now and already showing...

:) Not just bloat? I guess it doesn't matter if it's bloat or baby, either way by five months you'll be baby bloated :P

How long can you wait before buying? And then something with some 'forgiveness' is a great idea - either a stretchy fabric or a bunched/gathered section or whatever.

How lucky that you've got such a reasonable friend about all this - that she's totally cool with you each having whatever dresses you want etc :)

Im pretty sure it's belly and not bloat. I started showing between ten and twelve weeks with my first, so it doesn't seem off that I'd be peeking out a bit already. I wan to put off buying the dress as long as I can, but the wedding is in three months and with time needed to get it fitted potentially, sooner is probably better.

Check thrift stores! That's where I've found a lot of great maternity wear.

No matter where you buy/what style, you should WAIT! you dont want to get into making predictions about what you'll be able to wear, you kind of just can't tell with something like a dress, where your boobs may or may not decide to get all giant overnight and make it look like you showed up going for the knocked-up pornstar look, lol.

I learned this lesson the hard way when my wedding dress went from a little bit of cleavage to BAM! because my D cup size freakishly increased to an H in less than a month. Not kidding, I wouldnt have believed this was possible if it weren't me trying to figure out what the hell to do the morning of my wedding. LOL. And I totally bought it with *extra room,* but anything more than 2 wks out and it's just a complete crapshoot!
