I had a similar experience when my first was born back in July. I went to L&D because I knew I was having contractions, but had no idea how close they were. While being monitored, my blood pressure started to spike and so they decided to induce me because of pre-e (I had been fine before that, but for some reason, it all changed really fast.) Anyway, they put me on Mag sulfate (I don't think I had ever been so hot in my life. :-() and I got an epidural around midnight on the first night. Finally, after no progress, and being absolutely miserable for 36 hours or so, I had to have a c-section. My OB was going to allow me to go until the next day, but they were worried about the terrible headache I kept complaining about. Definitely not my ideal birth experience, but I can't complain too much because I now have a perfectly healthy baby girl! :-)

So yeah, sorry for the novel, but wanted to let you know I can relate. Congrats on your new baby! She is very beautiful!

It's weird, isn't it? I have chronic hypertension but it was controlled with medication throughout the pregnancy. I *had* been placed on bedrest because the umbilical cord pressure was high at one appointment (and never repeated, but bedrest meant I didn't have to work at a job I hated, so I was ok with it :) ) but when I went in to L&D, it was ridiculously high. I'd heard about mag making people hot, but I just felt nuts. I was seeing double and just totally tired and felt like I'd been hit by a truck. An hour after they took the IV out, I felt like a new person.

Congrats! What a cutie! I also had pre-e and I was induced with my daughter, I was against interventions but ended up with almost every one. My blood pressure is still really high, but it hasn't been as long. Are you on medication or anything for it?

I am, I'm now on 600mg of Labatelol (err I may not have spelled that correctly) and on Norvasc also. My OB turned me over to a cardiologist after upping my Labatelol to 600mg didn't do the trick, and the cardiologist is who added the Norvasc to the mix. According to my home monitors, I'm still in the 140s/90s range, so it HAS improved; my first visit after giving birth, it was 154/106.
