Fundal height worries

I'd like say that my biggest pregnancy fear is preterm labour.

Ancient History: My mom gave birth to me six and a half weeks early. Apparently her uterus stopped growing and I ran outta room. Now, she had a lot of health problems that probably influenced this. I was her only child (no other pregnancies to compare with ( Read more... )

I was consistently measuring small, 2cms under, just like you. My baby was born at exactly 40 weeks :) Fundal measurements really aren't that accurate and certainly nothing to worry about if you are in the normal range!

I measured small during both of my pregnancies, it's just how I carry my babies. First pregnancy I had my DD the day after her due date and she was 8#7oz. Second pregnancy I was induced at 40W6D and baby was 8#13oz. Fundal height was no indication of small baby size for me! People still can't believe with my small bellies that my babies were as big as they were.

Just wanted to echo about fundal height not meaning all too much. It can depend on position of the baby, position of the placenta, water retention (or lack thereof), and just the way you're built. Also, it varies by who is taking the measurement on what day. Sometimes even the same person can get two different measurements because it's really just a guesstimate of where your pubic bones are vs where the top of your uterus is.
Just keep eating healthy and try not to worry about an arbitrary number. <3

Yes, this!

You should also keep in mind that many women find that their fundal height measurement is smaller (behind) during their first pregnancies and that they're larger during subsequent pregnancy. That was my experience - with my first pregnancy, I was very slender (almost no stomach fat) and had great abs. I measured 2-4cm behind my entire pregnancy. With my second pregnancy, I had some belly fat and my fundal height measured 2-4cm large from my first measurement through the end of my pregnancy. I am pregnant with my third, lost some weight between pregnancies, and had my first fundal height measurement last week and I was measuring dead on.

I consistantly measured behind by a week or two, and gave birth to a 10 lb 24.5" baby 9 days after my due date. Fundal height is not really an accurate measurement.

nothing really to worry about - fundal heights depend upon how the baby is, the length/size of baby, and the length of mama's torso.
