Fundal height worries

Jun 20, 2011 15:55

I'd like say that my biggest pregnancy fear is preterm labour.

Ancient History: My mom gave birth to me six and a half weeks early. Apparently her uterus stopped growing and I ran outta room. Now, she had a lot of health problems that probably influenced this. I was her only child (no other pregnancies to compare with).
We're 100% sure of her dates, because she was high risk and undergoing fertility treatments: Her pregnancy was highly monitored.
FWIW, my grandmothers gave birth to their (total) five children within a week of their due dates.

Backstory: I've been obsessing over my fundal height since my doctor started measuring me at 20 weeks. It's been pretty consistently 2cm smaller than where it "should" be (20w:18cm, 24w:23cm, 29w:27cm). My doctor isn't worried since it's still in the normal range, but I am. I have these nightmarish visions of my uterus growth stopping and my baby being born early and having a bunch of health problems just like I did/do.
FWIW, in the four ultrasounds I've had, baby has measured within a variation of only three days.
Also, the only health problem my mother and I have in common is PCOS, and my diagnoses is not official.

Has anyone had a consistently small uterus and gone into labour "on time" (so, between 38w and 42w. I wouldn't mind hearing stories after 36w either... that's the cut off for my local hospital). Put my mind at ease LJ, please?

ETA: I conceived during a period and I'm wondering if that could be affecting my fundal height. That is, my uterus is two weeks behind because, well, it was two weeks behind in starting this whole "pregnant" thing and just hasn't "caught up". Or is that stupid?
And thanks to the ladies who've commented so far! Every story helps :)
