Every time I visit the perinatologist, I think it's the last time, and every time they tell me I need to come back ( Read more... )

I will ask my dad-in-law if I see him tonight what he thinks, but in the meantime might I add I'm sorry, that totally sucks! Upped the bed rest meaning what, do you have to pee in a bed pan or what? Two weeks....can you imagine little baby girl being here that soon? Woa!

It means no meals sitting up (yay heartburn!), no more 10-minute walks, no more once-a-week outings. I didn't ask about peeing or my beloved nightly baths, because I didn't want him to take them away, too.

I would love to hear what your FIL says. Just so I know what kind of shipping to choose on this crib mattress, lol.

You have to lay down all the time? You have to eat laying down? That's gotta be one rad baby you're growing for all the effort. You have my sympathies!

For me, not one person checked my cervix throughout my entire pregnancy until I was already well into my 13th hour of labour. I never allowed it. I just feel that unless there is a medical reason to do so, there's no need. I may sound too "crunchy" but our bodies know what they're doing and I don't understand why a short cervix would indicate a section. I went to 42 weeks on the dot. Personally if I were you I would just go with my instincts. You don't need to decide about a section today, and so you can tell your OB that you'll wait and see about it. There's no harm in waiting until you have more information and are over 40 weeks to decide.

Every woman, every pregnancy, every outcome is different. Some don't efface until labour starts and others do so early. I don't think (I can't be 100% obviously because I'm not a doctor) that anyone will be able to tell you it will be one way or another for sure.

Best of luck!

There's no one pushing a section at this point; I think my doc just meant that she didn't think short cervix = increased risk for preterm labor and used the example that she has sectioned women with short cxs to bolster her argument. I'm just curious about whether anybody in the comm can speak to whether they were effaced early and delivered early.

If I can remember right with my two year old . . . my doc said I was 70% effaced at 36+ weeks and she wasn't at all concerned for pre-term labor.

That being said . . . my water broke that night and 36 hours later I was holding my daughter.

Sorry! This whole time I was thinking it happened because I was stressed that they said I might have had late onset gd but now I kind of think it was the internal! I'm going to refuse them this time.

I had a short cervix as well.. ended up having my son at 31+2. My OB was also convinced I'd make it to my due date.. and clearly didn't. But, my specialist had been quite worried about preterm labor (and rightly so, as it turned out).

I had seen my OB on a Monday, went into labor on Sunday. On Monday, she checked me because I told her I had been losing my plug and cramping a bit, but she said i was fine... Then i had contractions all week, went to the hospital on Sunday because I was spotting, and 6 hours later, my son was born.

Wow, I hope your son is OK. 31w2d is pretty scary early.

Thank you for sharing your experience...it's good to hear what other women have been through. :)

He's doing great. Small, but great. Will be 4mos on Apr 5. He was in the NICU for 3wks, but that was due to his size, and needing the feeding tube at first bc his suck/swallow reflex wasn't developed.

Np :) I was so stressed out from the short cervix thing, and was forever worrying, esp since my cervix would decide to change basically every appt (weekly) but I am ultimately glad he turned out fine.
