Finishing Up

I just had my baby shower on Sunday and got almost everything I needed/wanted. I did not get a diaper bag and after looking at them to buy for myself I've started to wonder: If I'm going to EBF do I REALLY need one? I tend to like extra large purses so is there any reason I couldn't just get something like one of these and not have a "real" diaper

If you can fit what you need in a purse, go for it! I EBF and these days I tend to bring along diapers, wipes, diaper cream, a spare outfit, a couple of receiving blankets (to put on those fold-down changing tables), a couple of washcloths, a changing pad, and a toy or two.

I wanted to go with that idea of just using a big purse, but my kid had SO MANY diaper explosions in the first few months. We'd need a stash of diapers, and wetbags, and extra outfits (at least 2-3 for my kid). You don't want to be carrying around shitty clothes/diapers in your purse. We cloth diaper, so we'd have to bring those diapers back home, and that would have gotten really nasty if we only had my purse. Plus, hubby likes to take our son out on occasion, so he needed something to carry all that stuff. We got a pretty basic one from my parents by Eddie Bauer. It works well enough, but still doesn't seem big enough for ONE kid, and I'm due with #2 in August.

your going to need a diaper bag for diapers, extra baby clothes (i leaked so much the first three months of breastfeeding that i kept an extra shirt for ME in the diaper bag) snacks for me before bubs ate solids, snacks for all of us now, little toys for boring places....

that being said i use my diaper bag as a purse, i don't carry two things. so if you find a big purse w/pockets that'd probably be fine

I plan on breastfeeding my baby, but I work both first and second shift on varying days, meaning that he will be spending 2 days/week with my mom, and 3 nights/week with just my husband. I always thought a big bag would work really well, but when it came down to it, all of the handing-off seemed to warrant baby having his own bag. There is also the fact that DH wanted a diaper bag that looked a little more manly. :)

Haha we are getting Daddy a man diaper bag. The blasted thing is 80$ but its ok. Daddy's tend to get left out of the whole baby business so I figure he deserves it. :)

I flop between being a SAHM or being a Nanny so Kizzy will almost always be with me. Which is another reason I figure I can make do with just a large purse haha

I say get a bag for when someone else has the baby. I got a diaperbag that is a bookbag from Walmart. I personally like having the separate bags since depending on if I'm going to work or something, my purse can be quite full on it's own without the baby stuff. In any event I couldn't imagine calling his stuff in my purse even if it wasn't full.

The bookbag may make you look like a kid but it's comfortable with the weight balanced on the both shoulders.

We are getting my husband his own diaper bag. So that could be used on the occasion that she won't be with us.

I tend to have a very empty purse if I buy a huge one. Kinda defeats the purpose of them but I like the way they look haha.

I used to hate having to carry a purse. Then one day I started needing one and now I have all this stuff in it. It's not that bad (thank goodness) but it's a bit much for me.
