I've read that on average it takes about six months to fully get your pre-baby body back (other than possible permanent changes, like wider feet or hips). Some people spring back faster than that, but I don't think five weeks is nearly enough to give yourself before you start worrying! I've read about plenty of women who were still asked when the baby was due as much as three months later.
This. My tummy was still poochy and quite round for about 2 months and then it went flatter but its still squishy and not flat as it was pre-baby.
My doctor told me that mama's keep their bellies for a reason, to rest your baby on it! Its warm and like a nice cushy waterbed, its great for skin/skin contact!
TOTALLY normal. This was one thing I wish someone had told me before my first was born. I was horrified by how huge my belly was immediately postpartum. I looked like I was still 6 months pregnant for about a week, and then it very slowly started to go down. With my twins it was a little different because it looked like my belly was a balloon somebody had popped. Of course talk to your midwife to ease your mind, but it sounds pretty normal to me. Some of us take longer to lose the belly.
I was always told "9 months on, 9 months off". Basically, it could be 9 months before your body goes back to what is going to be it's "normal". I think it took about 5-6 months for me to not look (at least to me) like I still had some pregnancy chub around the middle the first time. I'm expecting it to take a little longer this time around.
Do you have a short torso? I think that makes it take a little longer for it to shrink back down. Relax... 5 weeks out is still VERY early. :) I was usually back in pre-prego clothes by 3 months, fully lost all the weight by 6. Your hips still have to come back together, etc. I'm a petite mama too.. it takes time!
I'm two months out and I think I look like I'm just starting to show. I don't like it but that's just me being impatient. According to everyone this is normal. I never had a flat stomach so I'm not expecting that, just to look not pregnant. I wear a uniform everyday so I can hide it. I still wear some maternity stuff. My mom and grandmom recommend spans. I might try it if I still look pregnant after a longer period of time.
