PIH Leading to Pre-e?

Feb 20, 2011 11:17

I had my 18 week midwife appointment last Monday. Everything went swimmingly, heard the heartbeat right away, growth on target, all that jazz. But my BP was a little high, as it seems to have been this whole pregnancy. They took it twice, the first time it was 140/90, and then after about 10 minutes of lying down, it came down to 130/90. I didn't have any lead up to my pre-e. All of a sudden my blood pressure was sky high and my kidneys started spilling proteins. I was monitored closely and put on bed rest at 34 weeks. I was induced at 38 weeks, had seriously THE BEST LABOR EVER. No c-section. When I went into the hospital I was at a 2, they just had me spend the night, next morning I woke up at a 4, they gave me a low dose of pitocin and broke my water, I had my son about 3 hours after that, only pushed for 12 minutes. Not all inductions end in c-sections, but I definitely understand your concern! My son was definitely ready to be born though, almost 8lbs at 2 weeks early!

My story was definitely the bad & the ugly, lol. My BP didn't start going up until about week 28-30, & there was always a trace of protein in my urine. The protein count in my urine continually went up, as did my BP. I started methyldopa (sp?) around week 35 or 36 & it did nothing.. there was no change at all. BP was on average 150/99 and I was induced at 37 weeks because everything took a turn for the worse, in regards to BP and protein count ( ... )

I had PIH with my first, which did not turn into pre-e. I didn't take any meds for it, as it was not severe. I did not get the homebirth I badly wanted. I wound up getting a Cervadil induction, not necessarily because of the BP but because my water had broken many hours earlier and I was not dilated or effaced--I badly wanted to avoid a c-section so did consent to that much. I went on to birth with no further interventions. All in all it turned out okay--the bp never created any actual issues, but having to birth in a hospital really sucked.

I was diagnosed with PIH late in my third trimester with my first pregnancy. To be honest, my "normal" BP has been a little high for a few years due to my weight, but obviously it must have gotten worse for my OB to make the diagnosis. I did have a lot of swelling also. But they did blood tests, and checked my urine, and as far as I know, I never ended up with pre-eclampsia. Because of the high BP, I ended up being induced at 40 weeks, 5 days. My son was 9 lbs, 6 oz, face up and despite almost 2 hours of pushing, he did not want to budge. So, I did end up with a c-section. Aside from having to be induced, the BP was never an issue and I never needed any medication. I hope yours stays in check and you are able to have the birth you are hoping for!

I was diagnosed with PIH at around 30 weeks - did the 24 hour urine test at home (came back fine) and wasn't put on any medication. I wasn't put on bed rest at home, but was told to seriously take it easy.

At 35 weeks my BP was skyhigh and they diagnosed me with pre-eclampsia which turned into me being induced and then ultimately having a c-section.

It all happened very fast, to be honest. I went in for a "normal" appointment on Tuesday and then BAM! had baby on Wednesday.
