So--- ive had about enough. I am 23w3d today and I am an already insomniac person and take (as per DR's okay) two tylenol pm at night almost every single night to help me sleep. Last night we were out of it and I had no reprieve. I tossed and turned and couldnt get cool or comfy and am now miserable and will most likely be pissy going into my ( Read more... )

I have no advice, if you were talking tylenol PM that's already the biggest thing I tried (besides calcium, keeping a full tummy, exercising during the day, the boring stuff you hear everywhere).

I just wanted to say that I feel ya. Pregnancy insomnia was miserable. Mine started before I even knew I was pregnant, and continued until, well, I wasn't (I'd been awake since 2am when I went into labor at 7pm one evening). It was my least favorite thing about pregnancy.

I understand that some doctors are prescribing Unisom; it's a category B and is supposed to be safe for pregnancy but not breastfeeding.

You could also try hypnosis.

It's a Category A according to some sites and it has never failed me yet!

This - it's the same sleeping agent that's in Tylenol PM, it doesn't have the Tylenol (which you don't need simply for sleeping - if you don't have pain or fever, why treat it?), and it's supposedly good for morning sickness as well.

I'd be wary of taking Tylenol every night but since you've got a dr's ok then I'm sure that is fine. I just wouldn't want the extra pain medication in my body. You might try Unisom, it's just a sleep aid with no pain medicine.

And, I hear you about the lack of sleep. I don't have the insomnia so much anymore (had that mostly first trimester) but now I am in so much pain or I can't breathe or have to pee every hour at night that I am not sleeping well at all, and it wears on you after awhile. I just want to sleep!

I'm looking forward to that night at the hospital where he's in the nursery and I can get at least one good night's sleep before bringing him home.

What helps my insomnia... sandokai January 26 2011, 15:33:57 UTC

I know I say "vitamin D" about everything, but I think it does help regulate my sleep. I also avoid naps during the day (except on weekends) so I'll sleep better at night, and I don't drink water within 2 hours of going to sleep. I also don't drink any caffeine ever (though I do eat chocolate),

I do a meditation thing where with each breath out you imagine your breath is relaxing a part of the body. Start with the feet and move upward. Often I fall asleep from doing this relaxation thing.

I have the "early waking" insomnia, but these techniques allow me to almost always fall asleep easily and help some with the early waking.

Gentle exercise like swimming.
