:(
i'm vegetarian and dont get this problem very often.
how is your hydration? i only get constipated when i havent had enough water. i'm not saying that's the cure for everyone, but it helps me!
probiotics will probably help loosen things up, but they may make you gassy in the beginning.... it'll balance out :)
another thing that helps me is to wait until i'm sure i have to go and then let my body work for me instead of pushing hard. pushing out poop is a lot like pushing out a baby and if it doesnt work, bad things can happen. swelling, hemorrhoids, etc. our bodies have a natural rhythm to move things down called peristalsis and if you wait until you feel that, you can work with your body instead of against it. it's frustrating to give up when you cant feel things moving, but it works out better in the long run.

I'll try even more water. Believe me, I'm not pushing hard. I had hemorrhoids after my first... NOT fun and don't want to deal with that again!

Thanks!

As another vegetarian I second all of this. I do wonder if it's why I seem to have fewer problems than some other pregnant people.

But I'm also way on the whole wheat bread, adding flaxseed and yogurt to smoothies, eating more than the FDA recommended fruits/veggies, etc. I'm only 16 weeks pregnant though, so who knows what might happen.

I also just "wait." You don't have to "go" every single day. And I've found if you just wait a few hours your body often magically "cures" itself.

Well, my problem isn't that I'm not going every day (though I'm not) it's that I get cramps and stuff from being constipated & gassy.

I didn't have one single day of this with my first pregnancy. This one is just so different and I'm having all these problems I didn't have with the first one.

drink even more water! lots lots lots. also, try colace stool softener, 100 mg twice a day. how far along are you? i started taking nexium in my last trimester and it CHANGED MY LIFE, heartburn-wise.

I am 27 weeks yesterday. I don't think the HB is bad enough yet for nexium (2-3 tums in the early evening usually kick it for the day) but I will keep it in mind if it gets worse as this guy grows more. :)

I DO need to drink more water. I drink probably 8-9 glasses a day but I really should up that even more anyway. I remember when I was on my diet and drank between 10-14 glasses a day and it probably helped a ton. I should get back to doing that.

I had really horrible constipation and a lot of the remedies I used would give me a dose of diarrhea followed by the constipation again. Terrible.

I ended up switching up my breakfast cereal to raisin bran. A bowl every morning, and I have had ZERO problems with either constipation or diarrhea since.

I haven't found anything that works on my gas, but I don't get gas pains. I just make things uncomfortable and smelly for those around me. =p

I keep a box of snacks around to nibble on throughout the day. Cheese crackers, granola bars, fruit snacks, just something to nibble on helps with the hunger AND the heartburn.

Thank you! Raisin Bran is on sale at the grocery store this week so I'll swing by and grab up a couple of boxes. It's been a long time since I had it but, from what I remember, I like it so that is an excellent and easy suggestion. Thank you thank you thank you! :)

My doctor suggusted metamucil once a day. Along with that i enjoy one yogurt a day and so far things are better...but not awesome right now. I only started this about a week ago, after some gnarly hemmorhoids. Oh the joys of pregnancy! 26w3d.

I've so far avoided the hemorrhoids. I had those after I gave birth the first time from pushing so hard to get DD out. I'm hoping I can find a solution so I won't have to "push". I actually just bought a bunch of yogurt yesterday so I'll start trying to get one in every day. Thanks!

This will sound silly and weird but it's kept me um...moving...since the constipation started at 3 months (thanks Zofran!) I use a water enema. Nothing special, just fill one of those hang up bags with the little nozzle with warm water, lube things up to make it easier and clean things out. I do get cramps while things are being done, but unlike with the pills, etc, after I go to the bathroom a few minutes later, I feel much better.
