C-section grumpiness

Jan 02, 2011 10:45

I am semi-accepting of the fact that I have to have a c-section: Prior section in this area of FL require a repeat one, and apparently because of HPV and the displaysia (sp) that was discovered recently, also requires that I have a c-section. What I am grumpy about is the fact that my OB says I have to have it a week to 10 days before my due date. ( Read more... )

I'm not sure what the doctor's reasons are, but definitely follow up and make sure he/she explains it to you..Then at least you might feel a little better about it. If it doesn't seem like he has a valid reason, I just read an article that said every week the baby stays in there is better...39 weeks is better than 37 or 38..I'll find it and post the link. Maybe you can ask the doctor about it..I'm super non-confrontational, and I don't know how you are about this stuff.. but you could just mention it and see what he says..

I want her to bake as long as she needs it. I believe, for the most part, he's doing it because he's hoping to do it before I go into labor by myself. That's what he intimated. I am going to talk to him tomorrow about moving it closer.

Planned sections are better than the emergency ones for both Mom (less chance of rupture) and baby (less stress).
If you know you need a section in advance then doing it before labour starts is just better, not doctors wanting to schedule you. If you agree you need one then you should listen to your doctor.

Here's an article about the stress
http://www.dailymail.co.uk/health/article-4334/C-section-babies-stressed.html

I think it's better for you and the doctor to be well prepared for the c-section which is the point of scheduling it.
No, I'm not pro-C-Section person, I haven't had one and don't plan to, I just recognize they are necessary sometimes and some people just automatically doctor hate and get all up in arms about them for nothing.

I'm not hating on my Dr... he's awesome usually. I am just grumpy that he wants to scheduled it a week to 10 days before my due date - when I want Gabrielle to stay baking as long as she needs to be baked.

Sorry, but it's not better for baby. Babies born via scheduled c-sections have a higher rate of breathing difficulties after birth than babies born vaginally or after a trial of labor. And even the article to which you link says " But she cautioned that the findings did not necessarily mean that babies born after Caesarean section developed the 'best' reaction to stress. 'They may underreact and it may be that natural delivery provides the optimal reaction' she said.". That doesn't say better for baby.

I'm in West Central FL. Hernando county.

No, I haven't contacted ICAN, I was going to, until my OB explained that the health issues I have (HPV) means that I'd have to have a c-section.

Having HPV automatically means c-section? Is this a Florida thing?

If you feel so inclined, you should show this to your OB, edited for your situation as necessary ( ... )
