So i have a few questions for everyone.. I'm curious how long after delivering your baby will it take until the hcg hormone does not show up positive on a pregnancy test? Two weeks after having our baby we had spontaneous sex, and I am wondering if i were to take a pregnancy test now if it would still be positive from having our daughter. Or if it ( Read more... )

Everyone is different for when they ovulate again just as it depends on every person how long they bleed after a baby. For me, I bleed for about 3 weeks, then ovulate about 5 weeks after the birth. Once one of my pregnancies is done, it takes about 10 days for me to not get a positive HPT.

So do you think since it has been a month it would be safe to take a test?

For the average woman, absolutely.

I still don't have a period at 16 months but I breastfeed :)

Any blood before 6 weeks, I believe, is not considered a period.

I'm not sure off the top of my head, but www.peeonastick.com might have an answer. I think I remember hearing somewhere that pregnancy tests become unreliable after about 6 weeks anyway because your body only produces HcG during those early weeks, but I could be wrong.

I had a negative test at 17 weeks once :) but then, the test may have been a dud. the MW gave it to me not to test me for pregnancy, but to test out her new batch of tests.

it's gotta be later than 6 weeks, though. one pregnancy I knew I was pregnant so I didn't bother testing. my husband was not convinced. he finally, oh, a month after I could have tested (so about 8 weeks?) bought me a test. it was positive.

fwiw, the hcg levels are highest from about 6-8 weeks, but hcg is produced by the placenta, so even if you're after that, the test should theoretically still come out positive. At birth, since the placenta comes out, the hcg levels should drop, but I don't know how fast. You could probably test now.
