The type of discomfort you're experiencing now came and went for me depending on baby's position that particular day. I must say that I do not miss the shortness of breath now that my baby has dropped! (Though there is a whole new set of discomforts that come when that happens!)
I completely agree. I'm 24w and feel great some days and want to curl up and die on others. It depends on where the baby is, mainly. Sometimes he moves in such a way that my stomach is completely squished, my entire abdomen is tight and my lungs can barely function. Then he decides to flop around and I feel fine.
I got the shortness of breath around 20 weeks, but didn't get the rib pain until later. It got more frequent as time went on and was pretty constant the last few days, but she dropped today (I think) :-) so the rib pain is gone! The hips are still figuring out what they want to do, though. 37 weeks.

Definitely a "come and go" thing for me. I'd say I've been uncomfortable in a pregnancy way (bloated, queasy, hip aches, rlp from walking too fast, BH's during a bumpy car ride, baby laying funny, etc) less than 20% of the days I've been pregnant so far. That said, there were some whole weeks that were uncomfortable as my body got used to certain changes. And I've had maybe 3 or 4 occasions where all I wanted to do was crawl out of my skin and be a non-pregnant person somewhere else for a few hours.
