After the baby is born...

Aug 01, 2010 14:11

So, I plan on having a home waterbirth...most likely it will be unassisted since midwives aren't allowed to do homebirths in the state of Illinois.
How do I go about getting the birth certificate and its shots afterwards?

TIA!

I can't answer the birth certificate part, but if you want shots, just make an appointment with a pediatrician after the baby is born.

They might not be allowed... but I thought my midwife (northwest indiana) mentioned having a client in chicago the other day...

There are a number of midwives in IL, some perfectly legal CNMs, others not-so-legal CPMs. If you can't find one in IL, are you close enough to any other states that some might travel for you?

We are smack dab in the center of Southern Illinois, and I really want to have the baby at home if all possible.

not-so-legal isn't CPM, because the c stands for certified, which of course you can't be if your state refuses to certify... they are DEMs.

I would check your sources about the midwifery/homebirth before deciding to do a free-birth...
