Ugh 40 weeks today. I know, I know it could be worse. But I am venting  to just vent ya know? A friend of mine said to request to have my membranes stripped at my next apt which is in an hour. I was 2cms and 50 percent effaced at my last apt last week. Has anyone had this done? How did it go for you ( Read more... )

My girlfriend had her membranes stripped at 42 weeks. Nothing happened at first. The docs told her to go home, give herself an enema, and come back in the morning because they'd have to do a c-section. About an hour after the enema, she had to rush back to the hospital because labor came on quick!

Until your baby & body are ready, any induction methods, self or medical, are only going to serve to frustrate you more and most carry risks. If this is your first, the average first baby doesn't arrive until after 41 weeks - the 40 week due date is just easier for doctors.

The last couple weeks seem to last forever, but he'll be here in a matter of days! Try to relax. :)

how about just relaxing and waiting for baby without putting yourself through all of that? i dont know if this is your first or not, but my first didnt come until 41w2d. i think none of those induction methods really help unless you and baby are both ready. even though my first came late, my 2nd one came early at 37w. hang in there..and enjoy some sleep while you can! baby will be here before you know it!

Membrane stripping is painful and unnecessary. I had it done (without permission, mind you) and it didn't work because my baby was not ready. Just keep reminding yourself that you'll get to spend the rest of your life with this little guy but there are only a few precious days left of being pregnant with him. As much as you are uncomfortable right now, you'll miss it in the end.
