Most of what I read about first time mothers made me assume that I would go somewhere between 40w 3d- 41w 3d for my pregnancy, but it would up to 42 (completed) weeks. I have no idea why a random doctor at the hospital told me that 10 days over was going to be a death knell.
I'd imagine that the longer the baby stayed, the healthier it'd be? As long as it's not causing any complications for you or the baby, etc., I see nothing wrong with going the full 42 weeks if that's considered completed.
A due date is not set in stone. In fact, average gestation for a first time mom (if doctors do not force induction and allow the woman to go into labor on her own) is 41 weeks 1 day. :)
So I asked given that how likely an induction would be to work
If you haven't yet, look up "Bishop Score". Basically, the higher your number on the scale, the better your chances of having a successful induction (if you do end up having one) without a Cesarean.
Then I would continue to refuse induction until either the Bishop Score gets to a favorable number OR there's a critical issue (placenta failing, etc.). Hang in there!
I went to 42+4 with my son. He was healthy and came exactly when he was ready. I consented to be monitored leading up to labour so I knew he was still happy and I was content to wait it out.

that story was fantastic, I really enjoyed reading that.
I think in some ways I was more surprised than anything (before I got to upset, damn hormones, I thought only adverts with fuzzy animals would make me cry) that this doctor would just say such horrible and, apparently since I couldn't even be booked to be induced, pointless things.
Im hot all the time with the baby and the extra blood flow, i shall simply enjoy the breeze of the deadlines blowing by!
You should file a complaint, that doctor is ridiculous!
I believe my Aunt went to 43 or 44 weeks with her first. I'm really not sure of the details. I just know she makes sure to let everyone who complains about being overdue know that she was pregnant a whole extra month lol. Her daughter was born perfectly healthy!
good to know! I don't even mind being pregnant, I didn't even think it was a big deal to get to 42 weeks, although I already won't answer the phone because of the 'had that baby yet?' calls. by 44 weeks I would turn it off.
I was due January 23rd. I was born February 23rd. I'm pretty skeptical about the need for an induction unless there are signs like the placenta failing. I wasn't even wrinkled, but it does look like I spent a full month focusing purely on growing hair!
