Be prepared for anything? :) I didn't find out I was pregnant with twins until I was 22 weeks. My belly still looks smaller than mamas carrying single babies, both are measuring on target, but my fundal height is correct for twins.

Had you any ultrasounds previous to 22 weeks?

Yup, had one at 10 weeks, and 2 doppler readings at 14 and 16 weeks... all three only found 1 baby.

Whoa! :D See, this makes me go "OMG itz twins!" lol. I've also had 2 doppler readings, one at 13w and one today at 17. But both times they put the doppler way low by my crotch- at home, I've been putting it up by the belly button every time.

i was always told by my doc that if there are twins in there *there is a thing called VANISHING TWIN SYNDROME*
That the heart rates -will not- be the same, they'll be different by up to 15 bpm.

I'd mention it to the doctor though...

These sound exactly the same to me- I'm sure it's not twins. It's just fun to think it might be. ;)

oh, yeah, fun and terrifying.
everyone keeps trying to convince me that there is another baby in my ultrasounds..
i'm sure by 34 weeks they'd notice. =)

Congrats on the pregnancy.. whether it's just one, or more.

I lost a twin to vanishing twin syndrome - it's when one twin dies and is absorbed into the mother or the other baby early on - there is no outward sign of a miscarriage despite the death of a baby; thus the "vanishing" part. It generally happens within the first several weeks though, with weeks 8 and 9 being most common.

it could be the blood flow going from you to the baby, that sounds a lot like another heartbeat. my ob showed me that the first time i heard my daughters heartbeat.if i recall correctly when i heard that it was right around my belly button. it could also be like an echo i guess. when my mom was pregnant with my sister she could hear the heart beat in different spots and it changed radically she was convinced she was having twins but there was only one.

So I'm not the only one who thinks two heartbeats may = two babies. Amazing! :P I'm sure it's simply a sound thing, or like others suggested, different parts of the baby where the heart rate is clearer.

My mother had identical twins and she didn't find out she was carrying two babies until 15w if I recall correctly. I was worried because of my intense symptoms, I was having twins. So did J. She said it can still happen since it was 12w4d when I had my last one. Ha. Anyway, I don't believe that is the case now, no evidence of it, but it sounds possible to me. : )

I have the same thing and I am carrying one baby! I think it is really just how the sound travels.
