I don't know why it is, but that happened to me around then, too. I just chalked it up to baby moving and maybe I was bloated or retaining water and didn't realize it.
I am 23 weeks and I notice some days my belly is bigger than other days. I guessed it was due to the positions the baby was in. But I just started showing. I think this happens to alot of pregnant women.
Since you're only 18 weeks along, chances are your baby just turned itself in such a way that the head and butt aren't "feelable" right now and when you press on your belly, the limbs just move out of the way. Wait til it's lopsided!
My 20 week belly pictures looked significantly larger than my 26 weeks pictures. Where your baby is hanging out in your belley really affects its size and shape!

As far as feeling baby, have you tried drinking a glass of juice and lying on your side? That usually makes babies jump!
