By the way, speculums aren't used during cervical checks. Only fingers/hands.

metal openy up things? If that's the case, you better call the doctor because he most certainly used one to check me and the midwife called them a speculum. I've had them used once before for a pap smear but it didn't hurt nearly as much.

Yes, speculums are used during pap smears, but defintely not during a cervical check. I had 3 when I was pregnant.

Speculums are very occasionally used to check dilation when there's a fear of spreading infection (such as prolonged rupture of membranes combined with an active vaginal infection), since the speculum can be more adequately sterilized than hands and doesn't actually touch the cervix. Then a light and a visual assessment of dilation are made. It's very unusual and uncomfortable, but does happen.

I've never thought the internals hurt at all...but I think everyone is different and with twins in there WOW that must have been pressure!!
