Hi all!! I've been reading for the past couple of days and decided to post a hello entry. I actually have an open journal just for our baby blogging. jenandwillsbaby We created this to allow friends and family outside of LJ to follow our journey. I don't know much about introducing dogs to babies, seeing as this is my first child! Althought I do have a 71 pound pure bred german shepard. So I am interested in what others will say.

Try to get a copy of the book "Childproofing Your Dog"- it had a lot of good tips that helped us get our 2 boston terriers ready for the baby (the 3 are now all best friends)
Also, set up whatever baby items you can early around the house. It took my pups a little while to get used to the swing. Try to use some of the baby bath products so they are used to the smell. We had my sister bring my son's hat home for them to smell before we came home.

Remember that dogs love "puppies" and your baby will be like your puppy to them. Dogs also tend to be very interested in new creatures in their environment. The baby will smell like you and they will see it as kind of an extension of you. Also they do know something is up, not just because they don't fit in your lap anymore but because your pheromones and body chemistry has changed and dogs are very alert to that. My mother in law had a dog that actually went into false labor when she was in labor with my husband (her first child). The dog was fixed and had never had pups. They can be more in tune with you then you think.
