High risk pregnancy

Sep 27, 2008 12:01

I am writing mostly for comfort because I thought everything was going to be ok, and now I'm getting worried again

I had a LEEP-cone procedure in May and then I found out that I was pregnant early in August.  (I'm 11 weeks today)  This surgery may cause me to have an incompetent cervix, which would result in 2nd trimester miscarriage.

My first real ( Read more... )

*hug*

I don' t know much about your situation, but I'm sure if anything were super duper serious, they'd have let you know.

When is your next visit?

I see my OB on tuesday, but I haven't been able to reach the high risk clinic for scheduling. They've only called when I'm teaching and didn't answer their phone after 3pm, when school lets out.

So, I'm hoping things will be settled in a timely fashion. Just a few days until I get to see someone in person.

Around 16 weeks in I started feeling a lot of pressure, and we weren't quite sure if it was something wrong with my cervix or just the baby growing. My doctor decided it would be a good idea to examine the length of my cervix, just in case having an incompetent cervix could be an issue. She said she wasn't really worried, because chances are if it was an issue . . . it wouldn't be something I was aware of as a problem (if that makes sense). I guess what I'm saying is most people don't realize they have a problem until it is a problem and it might be too late. I mean that as a positive thing in your case. Chances are what you're feeling are normal growing pains. What they'll do is measure the length of your cervix (internally, obviously), and depending on what your # is, they'll measure it again a week or a few weeks (I forget the timeline) later to see if there's any change. It's good that they're keeping an eye on you early on, because it is something than can control if they know about it. Try not to stress! If you're not ( ... )

i was told after my LEEP proceudre in 2003 that only after 3 leep's would i be considered high risk for pregnancy and possibly unable to carry to term.
anyway im 36w3d now and carrying just fine... if you only had one leep, u should be fine from what i understand

I had a leep also. I carried to term with no problems.
I was treated as "high risk" and in the end my cervix never opened
past 4cm.

I had a LEEP in 2002 I'm 35 weeks with my first. My OBs have never been too concerned regarding the competency of my cervix and to date it's holding up fine. I just notice its pretty tender (or I know exactly what cervical pain feels like) when baby kicks or head butts my cervix. They might be more concerned about you because of the short period of time since your leep. It takes the cervix time to heal. I was told 6 months to a year before its back to "normal" which might be why they are quick to label you high risk. Doesn't necessarily mean your cervix won't hold, just something to be cautious of.
