I had what I thought was a bruise on my leg that hadn't gone away, and still has been there for at least 5-6 weeks. My doctor looked at it, shined a light on it, and she told me it was varicose veins/spider veins. But I looked at pictures online, and it doesn't look anything like those. I saw a woman once who looked like her feet and lower legs were COVERED in bruises. She look like she broke her feet and ankles they were so purple. You couldn't see veins, but that's what it was.

I have a bruise on my calf that took several weeks to heal. Then it reappeared in the exact same spot. It's a burst blood vessel. My SIL, who's also pregnant, has the same thing on her foot.

Because varicose veins sit close to the surface of the skin, you can "burst" them if they get hit, which makes them look like a bruise. I do this with the (normal) veins in my hand relatively often.

It's dead sexy :P

Yeah I have what I thought was a bruise on my inner calf, three years later its still there and that's what i have been told it is.

Yeh, I think she's right. I have a bunch of spider veins on my lower leg that look like typical ones (gosh, I hate them, I really want to have them lasered when I'm done with childbearing!), but also a cluster on my upper thigh that looks exactly like a bruise. I know it's not a bruise because it doesn't hurt and hasn't changed colour at all.
