I had my first u/s when I was 12w2d along (with a fetal care specialist - my fiance's ex filled my head with ideas of there being something seriously wrong with OUR baby because there was something seriously wrong with THEIRS - she was telling me it was my fiance's genes, when actually, it was hers...) and the tech and specialist both had to keep ramming the wand into my belly to get the baby to move.
He was just sleepy then, I guess.

And I was hyperemetic, too, and found out the same way you did :/
