You should most definitely eat. Stick to high protein foods. If you are in labour you will need all the energy you can get.

If your body isn't ready for labor yet, drinking water could help with the contractions. If it is, you should try to eat something and rest.

The best way to determine if this is the real thing or not is to time the contractions. Good luck!

my husband timed the contractions, and it was definitely not regular, although it was indeed painful and lasted the entire morning! The side of my belly still hurts from it, sort of like when you run and you get a cramp on your side.

Why wouldn't you be able to eat? If anything, I would encourage you to eat.
I think its awesome that you are going to go natural, and you are going to want a lot of energy and to be well hydrated. Make sure you keep eating little things (probably carbs or protein if you aren't feeling queasy) and drink a lot of water.
Try a heating pad for your back, I had a lot of back labor early on and heat really seemed to help.
If you don't have a heating pad you could try a rice sock, (you fill a regular clean sock with rice and warm it up it the microwave) and those stay hot for a really long time.
