according to the CDC the state I live in (Texas) will give you a "philosophical exemption" for delayed vaccinations. Which is fantastic, now I just need to find a doctor in our area that supports delayed vaccinations. Don't get me wrong, I want my baby vaccinated, just not against certain things right away. Like, who needs to be vaccinated against ( Read more... )

There's a yahoo group, that is called - AP doctors. THe ladies over there might be able to help you. Plus the group has database of AP friendly (and not friendly docs) Also, there's a yahoo group called-Slightly Crunchy AP Moms and I'm sure someone there could give you a recommendation.

Also, FWIW, i didn't find our ped until a few days before I gave birth. I just picked someone within the group (since I needed a name on the pre reg forms for the hospital.) I figured, if I didn't like the person, I could switch...so don't worry to much. You might find someone that you think is great and then start working with them and find that they just interview ell, you know. :)

I would consider calling the hospital where you're delivering at. The materinty nurses there see all the different pediatricans in the area, and they, I'm sure, know which ones are comfortable and supportive of what, as they see all the pediatrians in action.

my midwives have no suggestions for drs in my area, they're all pretty far away. I just don't know what kind of questions to ask!

hey you are like a stones throw from ;)
(i'm in kennedale)

anyway!

i use Dr. Daniels. he is out of cooks children group. his office is at matlock/debbie lane.
he is all about me breastfeeding & casually mentioned "well when you start solids at 6months.." so he really knows his stuff & isnt going to push things on you.

we talked very indepth about vaccines & he left the option to me.

his full name is Clive Daniels. he came highly recommended to me by 2-3 people.

they do all well baby checks in the AM and sick all day.. allowing you to get in asap.

Keep in mind, unlike OB's, pediatricians will meet with you before your baby's birth to talk about the kind of care they provide.
I got really lucky when I decided to switch because I could only find one practice that was taking new patients with my insurance. She is exactly what I would have picked if I'd interviewed her.
btw...I left the old one because once I had an out of hospital birth he treated me like I was a careless mother.
