Have you ever checked your own? Another recommendation might be for you to try to check it yourself. Wash your hands extremely well, then check. I find it easiest to squat while doing it--it's the only way I can reach my cervix. If you're familiar with it, you'll know if it's dilated. There's nothing wrong with asking or discussing your options. Tell the doc that you're worried about the state of your cervix, due to your previous specific issues, and that you're also concerned about possible infection from a check. Ask whether the doc thinks you should get a manual check of some sort, or whether a trans-vag or other US would be safer, or if there's no real worries, or what? At that point, the doc knows what your concerns are, and can recommend what he or she thinks is best in your case.
