Dance

I was nervous about my daughter’s first Junior High dance, so I accompanied her as a chaperone. She tried numerous crafty ways to prevent this. They didn’t need parents there, the dance was sold out--there would be no room for me, they had police officers there so no parents were necessary, I MIGHT EMBARRASS HER BY DANCING. My favorite was: what if ( Read more... )

Just an opinion, but... montecristo October 23 2005, 02:01:17 UTC
Your offspring is quite right. You strike me as terribly overprotective. As sins go, it isn't mortal, and your intentions are definitely the best, that's obvious, but...

I think I'll shut up now. Heh.

That's why I went, to see what it was like. And now that I know there's a handful of dedicated parents there, I will feel ok if I'm not at the next one. They really could use me, so if I'm not otherwise encumbered, I may make it a regular thing.

It's just a question of form and style and personal taste and says more about my own style than anything of substance. I'd not critique the substance of the job you're doing. ; )

Ok, I wouldn't have gone to a dance if my Mom were there! How do you have fun if you know your Mom is watching you? Well, I still think you're a great Mom and I know you were just looking out for your child's safety. Everyone grows up with different social experiences. I have to say that I'm glad most of mine didn't include my parents!!! ;-)

I didn't go to dances until I was in Hight School. In Junior High it was only have friends over to each other's houses.
I didn't stare her every second either!

Come on, you know you were breakin' it down on the dance floor right next your daughter and her friends. Heehee..just kidding. You're a great and caring Mom.
We had junior high dances when I was a kid too and I personally found them awful. There was so much pressure for me too look cool(well in my head) so the idea of Mom being there would have not been good for me. Every kid is different though. I have to say it was always great having Mom after the fact to cry to because Joey danced with my friend and not me. :(
