There'll be dancing in the streets of Glasgow tonight...

So, the conference is over, and now I have to digest the mathematics and the vast quantity of sausages I consumed throughout the last week. I'm staying in Halifax with a couple of the locals who I met at the conference, being shown the city and its great profusion of bars. It's a pretty cool place: actually, it reminds me somewhat of San Diego. ( Read more... )

I started reading this and thought: this isn't Halifax, really. And then I realised, that indeed, you weren't talking abou the Halifax I know (as I have various, some quite close, relatives there; the one in Yorkshire, that is) at all. Then it made much more sense.

Yeeees.... the "location: Nova Scotia" bit was meant to be a hint. Though the writing is awfully small :-)

There's also a Liverpool and a New Glasgow (and no doubt other such places) in Nova Scotia. It can get confusing. Fortunately, I don't have to worry about London, Ontario :-)

Dammit! I forgot all about that. Anyway, they were armed with big spears and going around in groups of 20, so it would have been a bit difficult to spirit one away.

From pozorvlak:

To my great surprise, being in Canada does not give me a get-out-of-jail card wrt the World Cup

From news.bbc:

In Pariwas temple, where Phra Prawit lives, the monks have taken this one step further. A golden statue of David Beckham - forever immortalised with his late 90s-era floppy hairstyle - is nestled among the Buddha images.

Since it was created in 1998, the statue has become a tourist attraction, but the temple's monks are non-plussed by all the interest.

"Beckham's all right," said Brazil supporter Phra Phitak, busy washing bright orange robes outside the temple, "but personally I think Ronaldhino is a better player."

Great link, but that's Thailand. I've had Thai monks try to engage me in long discussions about the composition of the Liverpool squad before (true). This is Canada, where they're only supposed to care about hockey...
