I looked up ballet, Mary Sue and fanfic and got today's link of the day. Flashback Sue was picked because of today's entry... sort of. Today's entry was sent in by afleur_de_lis.

The thing that I don't understand is what she's doing at Hogwarts in the first place? She doesn't show any magic talent whatsoever in the story at all, and why hasn't she received a letter to Hogwarts at the age of eleven like everybody else

However that isn't what really bothers me the most about this character. It's the fact that she never once thinks about the woman that defended her and actually put herself in the way of the abuse. What about her? Why isn't Laney so concerned?
That's a very good point. Given that Laney not only assaulter her father, but then managed to escape retribution... it wouldn't be unreasonable to be worried for Kim's life.

As far as I can tell, she didn't apparate to Hogwarts, she just happened to run there... to a castle hidden in Scotland miles away from any muggle settlements.

And why didn't she get her letter? I'd consider that her father might have hidden the letter from her, but we've seen quite clearly that this simply doesn't work.

So Dumbledore decided that she should be hidden close to Hogwarts... in the forbidden forest? Do we know if there is a muggle town close by to the school?

I agree with what you say here. Laney sounds more like a muggle than anything. She shouldn't be able to find Hogwarts at all because the castle has all these charms and enchantments upon it.

Nope. The only settlement in the area is the wizard-only Hogsmeade.
