Why is it every pregnancy story is used to force the guy get with the girl.

I'm reminded that I have a story dealing with teen pregnancy involving Toshiro and Karin from Bleach where they mess up one or a few times and Karin makes the decision not to involve Toshiro at all to the point she decides not to tell him. Of course, figuring out the right situation that fits both characters is the problem.

I don't think I've ever read a pregnancy fan-fic where the girl doesn't suffer from a (usually dramatic) bout of morning sickness. Not every pregnant woman gets morning sickness (my mum never did). Just once I'd like to read a pregnancy fic where the girl has minimal symptoms and doesn't realise she's pregnant until 5 months or something,

That, or a story where a girl mistakenly thinks she is pregnant because the day after she did the deed she gets sick.

One of the saddest things is when the summary for the fic sounds intriguing, and then it's just implemented terrible. A perfect girl getting pregnant? It's not original, but that happens all the time in real life, and could be a good story and well done. But it's never . . . really done well, is it? It's never really even the plot, the pregnancy. The pregnancy is never anything more than a plot device written by someone who hasn't even bothered to research pregnancy, more than just what is universally known. Also, the idea that good girls can't get pregnant, or that having sex while drunk makes someone "bad" is really . . . well, it bothers me. Getting pregnant isn't a "bad" thing; you are not a bad person for drinking or having sex or getting pregnant, and I have a hard time reading fics where the author sort of . . . vilifies it, while writing it as nothing more than a plot device? The plot should be the pregnancy, not the romance it causes. Beyond that, the writing here made it seem like maybe James had taken advantage of her while ( ... )

I learned a long time ago that the majority of writers for pregnancy fics as well as love triangle fics have this kind of double standard. Every time I see it occur I want the guy to dump her flat. Actually, what I would really like is to see a guy fight for the custody of his kid once she was born because he doesn't want to be with the girl and his parents fighting along with him to get custody of the baby. Particularly in this case, and since Neville is her father I can see him actually siding with the Potter's on this one and giving his daughter a hard time.
