I do not think James and Lily would just get rid of a squib child. Where do these fanfiction authors get this idea that a muggle born mother would get rid of a child without magic.

It comes from the fact they come up with an idea and run with it without actually thinking said idea through. There are some ideas that just aren't good no matter how one goes about it.

Lily was willing to die for her child. I think it's safe to say she would love him with or without magic. For that matter, Vernon would never take the boy in if his parents were around to raise him. I'm also amused that there's a forest full of unicorns and such behind Number 4, Privet Drive.

We also have Mark Potter, who has been deemed to be "the boy who lived", despite the fact that his mother, father, and brother all lived, too. No explanation on how Voldemort died if Lily didn't sacrifice herself, or why everybody thinks Mark is responsible.

Oh, goodie. Chapter four reveals that James's parents are still alive, "lords", and racist pricks (despite that going explicitly against Sirius's description of them).

Why would either the Potters or Dursleys be mad about a squib? That's a Malfoy thing to do
