Does anybody have any theories on why the Sue Authors always take pains to tell us that they own their Sues? Because every single one of them seems to take trouble to specify it. Is it just a 'I do it 'cause everybody else does' thing, or what?

I think they don't realise that it's the same story, because they think they're using their own originals and writing it their way. On the surface- yeah, there's differences, but the essence is the same. Seriously, if you take a look at original senshi stories in the Sailor Moon fandom, it's much of the same.

because, haha, they're character is so great and fits in canon so well that some readers might think its an ACTUAL CHARACTER!

Perhaps it's sixty inches (5' tall) ... which might make the next three words a little redundant. Or perhaps it's referring to some shorts she owns. It's all very... well... very.
